1966 Chevrolet Corvette

VIN 194376S113292 ENGINE 327 V8 L79 TRANSMISSION 4 Speed Manual MILEAGE 79,765 One of Only 1,190 '66 Corvettes Finished in Tuxedo Black Numbers Matching L79 Engine and 4Speed Manual Transmission Recent Aesthetic Restoration Inside and Out Recent Suspension Overhaul In 1966, the Chevrolet Corvette faced its third year of C2 Generation production. For this year, the affectionately-named Sting Ray model saw a number of design and engineering changes which helped propel the 1966 model year to become the most popular for any C2. Originally produced between September 1965 and July 1966 at the St. Louis Assembly Plant in Missouri, Chevrolet sold 27,720 units that year alone, a total up by 4200 over 1965's numbers. Of those 27,720 examples, merely 9,968 were Coupe models. Regarding exterior modifications, the front end featured a new decorative grill, and other aesthetic differences from previous C2's include chrome-plated exhaust bezels, spoke-style wheel covers, ribbed rocker panel moldings, and the removal of any roof vents. Certain creature comforts, which we are now accustomed to today were also featured, such as the introduction of shoulder harnesses and headrests, the incorporation of backup lights and tinted glass. In 1966, customers had the option between 4 different powertrain options, each of which were a V8, and ranged in performance from the 300hp/327ci small-block to the brand new 425hp/427ci big-block. The power garnered from these engines was harnessed as standard through a 3-Speed Manual transmission, with the option of a 4-Speed Manual transmission or 2-Speed Powerglide Automatic alternatively. This 1966 Corvette Coupe is a shining, numbers matching example of the C2's most beloved model year, benefitting from a high level of restoration, whilst retaining its originality where it matters most. Finished in its original specification of Tuxedo Black (code 900), courtesy of a repaint circa 2022, this example is one of only 1,190 from 1966 sporting this exterior. Believed to be a no-hit body before restoration, pictures and other documentation relating to this work is included with this lot. Though the wheels are knock-off style, it is noted that they are not original Kelsey Hayes examples. The all-Black interior, featuring a mix of original and restored parts perfectly compliments the exterior, contributing to an overall appearance which is classic, yet menacing. Interior trimmings, such as the carpet and headliner are new, sourced from reputable supplier, Al Knoch Interiors. Other accouterments, such as a Vintage Air A/C system further contribute to the elevated feel of this C2's interior. Powered by its original, numbers matching L79 350hp/327ci V8 engine, channeled through the original matching 4-Speed Manual transmission, this Sting Ray has only covered 79,765 miles since new! Currently, the engine is fitted with a Holley 600CFM electric choke carburetor; however, the original number matching unit is included with this sale. Extensive records documenting other mechanical and aesthetic restoration or service of this C2, such as a complete suspension overhaul including bushings and joints, the addition of a new Dewitt radiator, new tires, and the addition of side-pipes are also included with this sale.
