1962 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster

VIN 20867S100206 ENGINE 327 V8 TRANSMISSION 3 Speed Automatic Fully Restored and Numbers Matching Example Ready for Daily Driving Thanks to Electronic Fuel Injection by Holley MSD Electronic Ignition Documented Engine Rebuild Powerglide Transmission Rebuild from August 2023 Original Parts Included The 1962 Corvette represents the culmination of nearly 10 years of Corvette C1 generation production and is largely considered the best exemplification of, "the original sports car platform." Featuring some of the greatest hits of the C1 generation, such as the refined styling and "straight axle" driving experience, the 1962 model also debuted features and elements which proved to influence Corvettes for future generations. Aesthetically, the 1962 Corvette retains much of the beauty and shape from the original C1 shape however, the iconic side "coves" were now painted to match the rest of the body and the chrome borders which surrounded them were deleted as standard. A raised "wind-split" which was essentially a flared portion of the bodywork now enclosed the coves, which also featured a singular vent on each side, behind the front wheels, which punctuated the new look. A newly redesigned rocker molding complimented these new coves. Up front, a black anodized aluminum screen was set into the grille. Two convertible top options were available, including a manually operated rubberized soft top, or a removable fiber-glass hardtop for an added cost. In terms of performance, the 1962 Corvette was a step-up compared to any of the previously available options throughout the C1 generation. There were 4 options in terms of powertrain, all of which were the first available variations of the now legendary Chevrolet small-block 327ci V8, and ranged from 250 to 360hp. The transmission choices however were the same as before, with a 3-speed manual standard, and an automatic and a four-speed manual available as options. The base 327ci V8 was rated at 250 hp, featuring a four-barrel Carter AFB carburetor. For an additional $53.80, the buyer could step up to either the RPO 583, which offered an additional 50hp, or the RPO 396 boasting 340hp. Finally, for an additional $484.20, the RPO 582 variant included 360-hp version and importantly, fuel injection. Other standard features for 1962 included seatbelts, locking interior storage space, a heater and defroster, roll-up windows, dual headlights, dual sun-visors, electric windshield wipers, and a side-view mirror. This 1962 Corvette convertible is a restored, numbers matching example, which has undergone a number of modifications in order to create the ultimate embodiment of the C1 generation whilst also remaining drivable and reliable for regular use. Records which are included with this lot document the ownership history of this car beginning in Florida in 2013, and with a mileage of 28,349 miles. It is noted that on 8/29/2014, the car underwent an engine rebuild by Vettexperts at a cost of over $10,000. Alongside the engine restoration, came the addition of rack and pinion steering, a power steering conversion, and power brakes conversion including front disk brakes. Other creature comforts which were later added include Vintage Air and a Retrosound Wonderbar radio. Receipts for this work, as well as other documents listing further servicing and refurbishment work are included with this lot. The current owner, who obtained ownership in April 2022 with 36,178 miles, continued to make modifications with the intention of building a C1 fit for daily use in the modern world. To do so, the original, numbers matching 327-cid/300-hp V8 was modified, removing the Carter AFB 4-bbl carburetors in favor of a brand new Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection unit with electronic ignition courtesy of MSD. Subsequent modification in accordance with the fuel injection conversion include an MSD cap/rotor kit, Corvette EFI fuel tank, a date coded custom built Harrison radiator, and more. All of the records documenting this conversion, including the original numbers matching parts such as the carburetors, are also included with this lot alongside several other records documenting servicing and refurbishment. A rebuild of the original Powerglide automatic transmission is documented in August 2023. This 1962 Corvette now presents 37,893 miles and is poised to provide its next owner with enjoyment on an everyday basis. Condition: Restored condition.
