Ed Clark, American (1926-2019), Oil on Canvas laid on Masonite Panel by the Artist, "The Movie Goers". Unsigned. A rare early, circa 1952 work in the Cubism style when Cark was living in Paris and attending the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere. There Clark's style evolved toward abstraction and he would later move to New York and join the second generation of the NY Abstract Expressionists as one of the very few African Americans. This work is contemporaneous with his large and well known work, "The City" . Canvas measures 12" H, 18" W; masonite measures 17-1/4" H, 23-7/8" W. Provenance: Circa 1953 gift from the artist to his his friend and fellow WWII veteran, Jean Quere. Thence by descent to the current owner. Condition: Good original condition.
